Spoken Fest 2017

A couple of days ago, I mustered up the courage to try out something new on my own. After weeks of making plans with friends, I was the only one left interested in the event and decided to attend what was called “Spoken Fest 2017”. The introduction to the event left me intrigued, it was going to be a lot of known and new faces ready to take on an audience with the power of their words. The concept was quite new to me, so I was obviously a bit skeptical about spending time and money, but I decided to give it a shot anyway, after all, you don’t get to listen to Zakir Khan poetry every day, even if its for a short while. The two day festival featured a host of artists ready to mesmerize the audience with their spell binding literature, some with music and some with the simple power of pure voice. What might seem a bit boring to some people, was apparently food for the soul for quite a humongous audience. As soon as I entered the huge gates of the place booked for the event, I was ...

The Unknown weather

Last night, as I was going through some random web browsing and basking in the intellect of other people's knowledge, I heard them again, the raindrops, they were bashing against the earth, as if charging towards the ground with all their might, but losing their will to fight right before the final blow. If you have seen those couples fight which have just entered a relationship, you will realize that they build up a lot of anger in themselves a lot of times, but by the time it all comes out, they understand that they can't afford to lose the person in front of them, Just as they are about to get into a massive fight, one of them will calm down as the other will stand in front with a calm face. Although this time, I think the earth has had quite a few such fights with the rains. It's already October, they need to get their crap together. We are all set to wait for some winter already. I am not normally a winter loving person, but the continuous rains don't help mu...

Move On

MOVE ON There comes a time in everyone’s life when there is a melancholy sound filling your heart but you cannot explain it to anyone. The piercing daggers in your head keep hurting you, but the world knows only a happy face. A weird discomfort enshrouds the soul, but the shroud is beautiful for people, sometimes to an extent where they get jealous of you and contribute to the daggers piercing blood out of you. Sleepless nights and non-content souls are a reality, and yes, they do exist more frequently that anybody realizes. What does not exist is a solution if you keep dwelling in the problem. I know, years of math training has taught us to keep looking at the problem and you will find the solution; and life is a little similar – little different from maths. Look at the problem but only to observe and find a solution, not to worry. Easier said than done it may be, but choices are limited under the two-faced shroud. Sometimes, when a solution is nowhere to be found, it helps ...

Worker Bees

Worker Bees They say, statistics never lie; so, I have decided to fall back on them. As per a random website that I landed on with the help of Google, 77,000 jobs were created in India in 2016. Yet, we are still struggling with low employment rate, the sword of lay-offs over our head, and the fear of losing the rat-race (since everyone calls it that, although even I am part of it and nowhere close to winning it). Another side of the coin is that India saw the rise of start-ups with immense acceleration in 2016. It has been reported that in 2016, there were 19000 start-ups in India. The number of active investors in India has doubled. The growth was so astounding that the government had to acknowledge it and create a separate entity called ‘Startup India’. It may seem that the general paradigm in India is shifting from looking for jobs to creating them; but, we are still creating jobs with the start-ups and people are happy with start-ups more because of this factor,...

Fat Chance

With all sorts of festivities around the corner, people can be spotted glaring the calendar, comparing the red dates to the blue/black ones, scribbling down dates and frantically accessing train/flight/bus booking apps on their phones. I wonder how much those companies would be earning this time of the year. Anyways, that would put me off topic, not to mention I am simply awful at finances. Well, coming back, with festivities round the corner, I too am frenetically looking for loop holes in the calendar system so that I can walk up to my boss and avail that leave when everybody in the entire office is on leave. When I finally managed to find a date, I gathered up courage to walk up to her to ask for a two day leave. She looked up at me with those non-contemplating eyes as if trying to make up the meaning of the word holiday/leave/Diwali. After about 5 seconds of a staring competition, she decided that it might be against her reputation to not know the meaning of the words; soon aft...

Family Ties

The beloved monsoon has finally arrived. Every nook and corner of the city is alive with the scent of fresh wet green leaves; sometimes the scent is interlaced with the invigorating aroma of ginger-tea and hot onion bajiyas. As the city comes out on the streets to celebrate, there is someone in some corner of the city longing to be home, to be eating those bhajiyas with a house full of people they grew up with, and to be home at last. As children jump in those puddles and enjoy the splashes cool water all over their face, one face drips with tears of longing. The rain, for that heart, is the tale of its woe and lonesomeness. The rain drops recite a different poem for a heart in pain. When the rains pour down heavily on the barren lands, splashing drops are hurt by the unperturbed cracks in the soil. The cries of a million drops are heard as music by plenty, some know of the agony they face to soften a hard heart. Pain never dies out completely. Like any other energy, it can only ...

UNADDRESSED QUESTIONS

There are times in your life, times when you are not in the best of your senses, times when your inferences are infected with the thoughts impregnated into your mind by constant talks of unbelievable treachery by those who were supposed to be your very own. After having read and seen of hideous acts of treason in the history books and movies, you somewhere believe it to be fictional and believe that you would never witness such gruesome acts of sedition. Alas! The beliefs can be overthrown, the right can actually be wronged, and there is nothing one can do in regard. For a simple bewilderment, The color green is actually a really beautiful portrayal of beauty and liveliness as given by mother nature, The fresh green leaves swaying in the soft rains, the lush green grass that soothes and invigorates you in the morning when you tread on its wet and tinkly leaves are all episodes that bring an upside down frown to your face. Unfortunately, the same color can bring the non-upside-do...
